The Biofilter
What is a biofilter and where can it be used?
Biofilters are used in various areas as exhaust air purification systems to reduce odorous substances. They are mainly used where biogenic odors are released.
How it works
The way a biofilter works is actually quite simple. The contaminated exhaust air is extracted from the factory building using a fan. The exhaust air enters the scrubber via pipes. There, water is used to wash out dust and coarse impurities. From there, the exhaust air passes through the fan into the pressure chamber of the biofilter.
The exhaust air then passes through the filter material into the open air. The bacteria and microorganisms in the filter material decompose and purify the exhaust air.
Areas of application
Biofilters have been used for the biological purification of exhaust air for more than 30 years.
